A quickie:horrible playoff picks, a 4 Pack of backers & the great white hype?

My incredible NFL prediction skills…not!

For the first time in 8 years, I was able to watch every minute of every NFL Playoff game throughout the course of an entire weekend. Being that I was a slave to retail management since I was 19, of course, I never got my weekends off.

Now that I am working as an internet marketer in training, I have my weekends free.

When I sat down to make my picks for the weekend however, it seems though, that I forgot one very unavoidable rule:in the NFL playoffs, anything goes.

I finished the weekend 1 an 3. I picked the Eagles, Bengals and Packers to win, and of course, none of them did. My only win was in picking the Ravens to beat the Patriots, and even that I had listed as my long shot for the weekend. Go figure it was the only truly dominate performance in the four games we got to watch.

Hopefully next week I see things from a bit more topical level, and have a bit more success with my picks. Only time will tell.

Lady ‘Canes Dominate Colts

During the early 2000’s, no women’s soccer team in central Florida could keep up with the Citrus High School Lady ‘Canes. They had a dominate program, and had several players move on to play at the collegiate level. This game was a great example of their skills.

The Citrus Lady ‘Canes dominated every aspect of the game as they shut out the North Marion Colts 9-0 in soccer action Friday night.

“We came out sluggish but picked it up in the second half. It’s nice to get ahead by as much as we did because I can move people around and try and get everyone a chance to score a point, whether it is and assist or a goal.” said Citrus coach Brady Bogart.

Despite their sluggish start, Citrus started their barrage of scoring early in the game when Tabitha Schrufer scored on a corner kick at 38:33.  The ‘Canes started scoring early and went on to out shoot the Colts 44-0.

Steelfox, Berger lead Citrus past Lecanto

This was always one of my favorite rivalries to cover. There was never a boring game between these two schools, especially when the games were played in Lecanto. On a side note, I always have held coach Ron Allan in a very high regard. He was a great motivator, teacher, coach and mentor to the student athletes he had a chance to mold.

Citrus Sophomore Katie Steelfox scored 23 points, leading the Lady ‘Canes to a 61-45 victory over the Lecanto Panthers Thursday night.

“I really thought it would be closer tonight, Lecanto played much better in the second half,” said Steelfox.

Lecanto scored first, with a lay-up by Erin Bailey in the opening minute of the game, the only time the Panthers would lead the entire night.

Citrus answered with 7 straight unanswered points to go ahead, putting them in the lead, 7-2. The streak started with a turnaround jumper by Julia Lambeck down low, and a Kristin Berger jumper. Steelfox took a pass from Alycia LePage, and hit a 3 pointer with 4:59 left in the quarter.

Cox tosses a gem, Tigers improve to 4-0

Eric Cox was a tremendous athlete. I had the chance to cover him playing three sports, basketball, baseball and football. While Cox was dominate on the mound in this game, baseball was not his best sport, in my opinion.

Led by Eric Cox and his stellar pitching performance, and a plethora of errors, the Dunnellon High school Tigers downed the Ocala West Port Wolfpack 13-3 Friday night at Dunnellon.

Cox, who went four innings, gave up 5 hits and allowed only three runs for his first victory. Cox also did his part at the plate going 2-3 with an RBI.

“This wasn’t my best game tonight,” said Cox who is 1-0 on the mound this year with 2 saves.

West Port pitcher Bobby Kissane did not fair as well as his counter part. Kissane, who was starting in his first varsity game, walked five of the first six batters he faced and gave up two runs in 1/3 of an inning.  James Holley came on in relief and got Gus Glancy to ground into a double play.

Ginley leads Tigers to shutout

I always really enjoyed covering Dunnellon Tigers baseball. They were always loaded with talented players, and had exciting teams on the field. This was published in the Citrus County Chronicle.

Kyle Ginley and Dunnellon High School made quick work of South Sumter High School, shelling the Raiders in a 10-0 victory in Dunnellon. Ginley, a sophomore threw a mere 44 pitches in 5 innings of work allowing only one hit in his shut out of the Raiders.

“I was feeling pretty loose before the game,” said Ginley who is 2-0 on the season. “But I had a good warm up and felt strong in the bullpen.”

Ginley, a second year letterman at Dunnellon played third base for the Tigers last season before becoming one of this year’s starting pitchers. Read the rest of this entry »
