When I think Green Smoothie, I think lemon lime.

It is official.
As of 10:39am we have gone off the reservations with the whole “Going Green” thing.
I came to this conclusion when I logged into “Google Trends” this morning, only to find that “Green Smoothie” was the top trend amongst internet users.
I thought to myself “Yummy, must be some new lemon lime recipe that was on Oprah…let me check it out.”
I did a quick Google search and found out that by Green Smoothie, they meant like…vegetables, with a hint of some fruit flavoring.
What the heck is going on? Lettuce, parsley and avocado do NOT constitute a smoothie in most normal peoples eyes, but for whatever reason now…they are all the craze. To me, it sounds like a treat that will induce vomiting minutes after consumption.
I am as much about promoting a healthier being as the next guy, but tell me if the recipe below sounds appealing to you…
I was wanting something that would fill me up, and was inspired to make a coconut soup after reading a post at the Raw Diva Powder Room. I didn’t have any coriander (cilantro) or lemongrass, so made the most of what I did have.
Mega-Green Smoothie
- ¼ cup Spirulina Powder
- 1 handful Fenugreek Sprouts
- 1 Avocado
- 1 oz Aloe Vera Juice (or 2 tablespoons fresh gel from leaf)
- 1 cup Purified Water
- 4 Jerusalem Artichoke Bulbs, diced
- 2 Nopal pads, diced
- 1 Cucumber
Seriously? Jerusalem Artichoke Bulbs in a smoothie? Not for me, I’ll just have a salad.
When will the madness of being a trendy mom from the up scale suburbs stop dictating the way we eat drink and move each and every day?
They even have a blog about it…(which for what its worth, no matter how appalled I am by this movement…the blog is very well put together)
At some point, this whole madness with the hype around “Going Green” has to stop. It is about recycling and making the earth a better place to live…NOT about marketing a disgusting drink that people will find trendy.
The idea that lettuce, cilantro, parsley and avocado now belongs in a smoothie is pretty insane. To me, this whole Green Smoothie movement is more about capturing some traction around the buzz word “Going Green” than it is about nutrition, making this whole thing something its not supposed to be.
Anyway…that’s just this guys opinion. Who else thinks differently? Leave some comments on this page and we will discuss it.
