So, let me tell you a little story. It may seem a little random, but that is because I am still trying to process how this even happened.
It goes something like this…
Guy and friends go fishing. Catch fish. Fish is too big. Fisherman approached by officer of the law. Fish was too inches too long. Fisherman pays $1000 fine, and $2000 in court and legal fees.
…and I say WTF?
Seriously? That happened? And in my home state of all places. I am EMBARASSED to live in Florida sometimes. This is ridiculous. This poor guy was out fishing with his friends and they caught a fish that was within the known guidelines…33 inches from snout to tail. However, the gentleman forgot to measure to the FORK of the tail…which came in at 35 inches. He just measured to the middle of the tail…honest mistake right?
Leave it to an official from Florida to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
I truthfully feel horrible for Christopher Rose. He was man enough to take blame for the mishap, saying : “Listen, sir, these are my friends, this is my boat, I’ll take responsibility for this fish.”
This was not threatening anyones life. It was an honest mistake. but the cop who arrested him did not seem to think so, issuing him a $1000 citation with the possibility of jail time.
Way to make use of the tax payers dollars…
Read the whole story here. Thanks to this fellow in Kentucky for bringing this to my attention.
