So, I got a letter the other day in the mail that made my year.
It read:
September 17th, 2009
Dear Valued Customer:
Comcast is pleased to announce that we have recently added ESPNU, NFL Network, NBA TV, NHL TV, MLB TV, and ESPN News to our Digital Classic Tier.
The letter went on to say some more things about lineup changes, new HD stations…but really, all of that was irrelevant because I now have TONS of sports stations to watch, and it doesn’t cost me anything additionally.
Like right now, as we speak, I am watching the Chargers play the Dolphins 1994 AFC Divisional Playoff Game.
It is incredible to see how much the game has changed in the last 15 years.
We all remember names like Junior Seau or Dan Marino. Watching some of the greats in their prime is a pretty incredible thing to see.
What is more intriguing to me is how many names I remember that many of us have forgotten about long ago.
Natrone Means.
Bernie Parmalee.
O.J. McDuffie.
Stan Humphries.
…and those are just from watching a few quarters of one game.
I have always taken much more interest in the stories of the obscure players, rather than hearing the stories of superstars. Those tales get regurgitated over and over again until we are sick of hearing them.
Hearing those names has inspired me. Each week, I will be profiing a few players from the last 15 years. Players that had fleeting moments of greatness, then disappeared as quickly as they rose to stardom. I will tell about the highlights of their careers, what the downfalls of their career were, and where I can dig it up, I will let you know what they are up to these days.
Be sure to check back often to see what is new and exicting on this page. Leave comments and me know what you think. Start conversations. Leave comments if you have anyone you want to hear about specificially.
I think we can have some fun with this…
