The Photo Caption Contest of the Century!

1 October 2009 View Comments

Okay, well, maybe the headline for this blog is a bit dramatic, but, I am having a photo caption contest.

Here is how it works:

On the 1st, 7th, & 15th of each month, I am going to post one picture from the world of sports on my site.

In the time between the day the picture is posted, and the scheduled posting of the next picture, readers are encouraged to post whatever caption they think best describes the picture. It can be funny, serious, political, whatever you want to be with one exception: it can not contain any overly vulgar language–rule of thumb, if you wouldn’t say it in front of your grandmother, don’t say it on the site–I will take it down if I deem is unsuitable for the masses.

Captions are to be submitted as in the form of a comment.

At the end of the period in which the picture is going to run on the site, I will read all of the comments and select a winner.

Each winner–we will have one per week–will then be entered into the finalist round will will start on the 21 of each month, and run until the midnight the last day of the month. In that time, all three pictures and captions will be posted, and you, the reader, will get a chance to vote for which caption you find the the most clever.

At the end of the month, the photo with the most reader votes wins a prize. This month’s prize, is a $25 American Express Gift Card…right in time for the holidays!

So here is all you need to do to get started:

  1. Go to www.IntenseDebate.com and register for an account. This is a free service that is required to post comments on this site. It is actually a really handy service that allows you to keep track of all your comments posted on blogs, Twitter and Facebook all in one place–so if you are an internet cruising, social media addicted nerd like me, you’ll love it! Best part about signing up for an account is–you will not be added to any spam lists like you see with so many other sites.
  2. Go back to to www.ThomasGemkow.com and click the “Caption Contest” link at the top of the page. This will direct you to the page where you can find the photos that are in the contest.
  3. Log in and make your comment.

Simple as that. If your caption is selected as the winner for the week, I will notify you via email. If you make it to the last round, be sure to tell all of your friends to come vote for your caption to win!

If you are the lucky one that wins the Photo Caption Contest, you will again, be notified by email, as well as be recognized on the home page of ThomasGemkow.com.

Sound like a blast? I think so! Now, let’s have some fun and get the creative juices flowing. Remember, anyone has a chance to be a winner, so be sure after you post to check back early and often to see what your competition is doing. If you think someone has one-up’d you, log back in and post a new caption. You can post as many as you would like–the best will win each week regardless.

Happy posting, and I look forward to mailing you your gift card for winning very soon!
