The once unstoppable, and always controversial back court presence Allen Iverson wants to hang up his kicks and call it quits.
Iverson, who has seen his playing time decreased significantly each of the last three seasons as he has bounced around from Denver, to Detroit, and now Memphis.
Iverson appears to be unhappy with his role of the bench for the Grizzlies, and their are no other teams out there who have expressed an interested in picking up the 14 year veteran–which to me is pretty shocking.
While Iverson can be an off the court distraction at times, the fact still remains he is a dynamic force when he is on the hardwood. Iverson has lead the NBA is scoring 4 times, has been voted into the All-Star Game 10 times. Iverson has scored 24,020 points, and has a .313 three point field goal percentage, while dishing out 5,522 assists over his career.
Iverson brought a level of excitement to the game that was unmatched during the peak of his career, and has a crossover that made young basketball players every where green with envy, and left several defenders across the NBA with ‘broken ankles’
Iverson is, unfortunately best known for his outburst about “practice” while playing with the 76ers.
I am willing to bet, that we have not seen the end of Iverson in the NBA. Look for a contender to step up, and talk Iverson into coming aboard for one or two last championships runs. For a player as spectacular as Iverson to walk away without a ring, is hard to fathom with the way things are in the league these days.
My bet is placed on Iverson landing with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce and Rasheed Wallace in Boston.
This move is logical to be because he would be around enough classy veterans that do things the right way that you would not have to worry about him stepping out of his role and causing a fuss in the media. The trio of Garnett, Pierce & Allen has brought a new excitement to Boston over the last two years, and the addition of Iverson would make an already strong contender a lock for a finals run.
Any takers on this bet? Sound off and tell me if you could see Iverson in Celtics green.

Ya know, I can see him retiring, and then pulling a Favre and coming back. I don't know about doing it multiple times, but I can totally see AI pulling a stunt like that.
