While the Florida Gators are no doubt one of the most impressive teams that college football has seen in years, one of the most dominant pieces of their powerhouse has put his immediate future with the team in jeopardy.

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested at 3:25am today for driving under the influence. Officials found Dunlap asleep at the wheel at a green light.

Dunlap was the defensive MVP of last year’s national championship game. He is currently tied for the team lead with seven sacks and does lead the Gators with six quarterback hurries.

This could be a huge blow to the Gators on the defensive side of the ball. While Brandon Spikes is the emotional leader of the defense, when you loose a pass rusher like Dunlap, it gives the other teams quarterback a sense of security that he has forever to pick apart a defense and make his reads to deliver an accurate throw.

Do I think this will hurt the Gators championship chances? No. I still believe the are the best team in college football, and despite my disdain for Tim Tebow, I have to admit, he is by far the best quarterback in the college game right now, and is the best in UF history.
