Lady ‘Canes Dominate Colts
During the early 2000′s, no women’s soccer team in central Florida could keep up with the Citrus High School Lady ‘Canes. They had a dominate program, and had several players move on to play at the collegiate level. This game was a great example of their skills.

The Citrus Lady ‘Canes dominated every aspect of the game as they shut out the North Marion Colts 9-0 in soccer action Friday night.
“We came out sluggish but picked it up in the second half. It’s nice to get ahead by as much as we did because I can move people around and try and get everyone a chance to score a point, whether it is and assist or a goal.” said Citrus coach Brady Bogart.
Despite their sluggish start, Citrus started their barrage of scoring early in the game when Tabitha Schrufer scored on a corner kick at 38:33. The ‘Canes started scoring early and went on to out shoot the Colts 44-0.
Citrus scored 3 more goals in the first half to up the score to 4-0.
One of those goals came with less than 3 minutes in the half. Midfielder Amber Presnick took the ball almost the length of the field, weaving in and out of defenders to score her first of 2 goals on the night. Presnick also had an assist.
“I don’t even know how I got the ball, but I just took it down and punched it in.” said Presnick
German exchange student Sheila Wollatz provided a late game spark for the ‘Canes, scoring 2 of her 3 goals in the final 20 minutes of the game, to record a hat trick.
“We didn’t play our game early on, but as the game progressed, we got into it and played our style of soccer.” said Jessica Macdonald who has a goal in the first half.
“We have been playing better, but Citrus is a really good team,” said Hinter Than, coach of the Colts. “We have been trying to improve on our basics, and we feel we played well in the first half, but the second half got away from us.”
Heather Queen, goalie for North Marion had 22 saves.
In the junior varsity game, shortened to 25 minutes halves due to North Marion showing up late, the ‘Canes won 3-0. Kalli Grimes scored 2 goals and Jenny Floyd scored the other in the Citrus victory.
The Lady ‘Canes will travel to Crystal River for their next game on Monday December 11th.
