This was always one of my favorite rivalries to cover. There was never a boring game between these two schools, especially when the games were played in Lecanto. On a side note, I always have held coach Ron Allan in a very high regard. He was a great motivator, teacher, coach and mentor to the student athletes he had a chance to mold.

Molly Keating is a virtual brick wall on the soccer fields. A four-year starter at Citrus High, Keating graduated in 2000, moving on to Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton Florida, where her dominance in the goals has continued.
“There is a huge difference between high school and college ball,” said Keating. “The level of play in high school soccer in very low. Club soccer is not even close to college either. High school soccer is no where close to either of them.”

The Citrus High Hurricanes lost to the Springstead Eagles (10-9), in double over-time 55-52.
“Missed foul shots beat us tonight,” said Citrus Coach Jimmy Thomas, whose ‘Canes missed 7 of 8 foul shots in the final 2 minutes of the final overtime period. “I don’t think it had to do with pressure as much as we just lacked focus tonight.”
